Welcome!
In this post, I am sharing a recipe for Salisbury steak and homemade gravy. This comfort food is delicious, and it reheats well for a work lunch. We're going to make the gravy first, then set it aside while we work on the steaks. We will add the gravy to the steaks during the cooking process. Alright, let's get started.
Ingredients for the Gravy:
- 2 Tablespoons butter
- 2 Tablespoon all purpose flour
- 1 cup beef broth
- 1/4 cup reduced fat sour cream
- salt and pepper to taste
Instructions for the Gravy:
- Melt 2 tablespoons of butter in a small saucepan over Medium heat.
- Whisk in flour - 1 tablespoon at a time - and mix well. Allow the mixture to cook for about 2 minutes or until bubbly.
- Whisk in beef broth - a little at a time - and mix well.
- Stir in 1/4 cup of sour cream.
- Add salt and pepper, if desired.
- Remove saucepan from heat and set aside.
Ingredients for the Salisbury Steak:
- 1 lb. ground beef
- 1 egg, beaten
- 1/3 cup grated Parmesan cheese
- 2 tablespoon water
- salt and pepper to taste
- 1 tablespoons olive oil
- 1 batch of homemade gravy (from above)
Instructions for the Salisbury Steak:
- In a large bowl, add the first six ingredients (ground beef, egg, Parmesan cheese, water, salt, and pepper. Mix well. Divide the meat mixture into 4 equal portions. Shape each portion into a patty about 1/2-inch thick.
- Heat 1 tablespoon of oil in a large skillet over Medium heat. Once the oil is hot, add the patties. Cook the patties for 5 minutes - flip them over - and cook an additional 5 minutes. Drain the fat out of the pan.
- Add the gravy to the pan with the patties. Increase the heat to Medium High, and bring the gravy to a boil. Place your lid over the skillet, and reduce the heat to Low. Cook the patties for 10 minutes covered.
